Free Sound Effects for Video Editing: Listen, Compare & Download

Original guide published September 14, 2026 · Source updated October 9, 2026 · English edition October 10, 2026 · By Lienzo

A whoosh, a digital cut, and an impact can occupy the same second but serve different purposes. Listen first, choose by intent, and download only the sounds your edit needs.

The main collection contains 68 effects in six categories. Separate packs offer 30 transitions and movements, ten intro/fade sounds, and 20 horror sounds. Demonstrations are on YouTube; Lienzo brings together download access, conditions, and editing guidance. Digital cuts, whooshes, and game sounds listed below are part of the 68, not additional to that count.

Collection and pack inventory

The first six rows total 68. Independent packs are separate downloads and are not included in that total. Scroll the table horizontally on a narrow screen.

68 effects across six categories

This is a selection of samples, not a playback of all 68 files. Compare suspense, glitch, digital cuts, whooshes, game sounds, and transitions.

There is no single archive containing all 68 sounds. Each category has its own download and guide, so you can obtain only the group you need and read its specific terms.

30 transition and movement sounds

This independent pack suits an edit needing variety: news stingers, metallic impacts, suction, futuristic explosions, sweeps, falls, and speed changes. It is organized into ten categories with original Spanish names.

Use it when: titles, scene changes, and impacts need a related sound palette without repeating the same file. The historical inventory excludes the projector sample heard in the video; that sample is not promised as part of this download.

12 digital-cut sounds

Short attacks for interfaces, camera jumps, technical labels, and fast montage. Align the waveform's visible peak with the cut frame. If an effect covers speech, lower its level before shortening the file.

Use them when: the image changes state instantly. For longer distortion, compare the glitch pack (English guide).

10 futuristic whooshes and impacts

A whoosh helps the ear follow motion. Place it before the visual sweep finishes: its attack prepares the movement, while the impact can mark arrival. Panning makes sense when the image also moves.

Listen to the whoosh demonstration ↗

Use them when: an object enters, a camera accelerates, or a title crosses the frame. Reserve whooshes for movement that guides attention, rather than placing one on every cut.

12 game sound effects

Signals for level completion, explosions, failure, Game Over, tension, and opening a chest. Match the sound to an action: a reward follows the visible achievement; a failure cue can begin on the frame where the interface changes state.

Use them when: a tutorial, stream, or vertical video represents an achievement, error, alert, or reward. Inspect the downloaded files before editing and keep their conditions sheet.

Which pack fits the edit?

Always listen in the full mix. An isolated sample helps compare character; voice, music, and ambience determine whether it works in the finished video.

A practical workflow

  1. Mark the cuts, movements, and actions that need emphasis.
  2. Choose a sound family and try two candidates at each marker.
  3. Keep effects on tracks separate from voice and music.
  4. Align the attack or impact with the image, not automatically the beginning of the file.
  5. Adjust level and tail. Check headphones and a phone speaker.
