20 Free Horror Sound Effects: Ghost Screams & Eerie Sounds
Published September 28, 2026 · English edition October 10, 2026 · By Lienzo
An empty doorway can feel occupied when the sound suggests someone is there. This pack contains 20 horror sound effects in WAV: ten ghost screams and ten unsettling sounds.
Try different intensities instead of repeating the same sample throughout a scene. The video plays all 20 effects so you can listen before choosing. The inventory below identifies the two groups in the RAR download.

What's included
The RAR is 9.24 MB and contains two audio groups. The source inventory records all files as stereo WAV, 44.1 kHz, 16-bit.
- Gritos de fantasmas: ten files numbered 01–10, with individual durations from 3.4 to 12.9 seconds.
- Terror inquietante: ten files numbered 1–10, with durations from 2.2 to 8.1 seconds.
Original Spanish filenames are preserved. They identify groups and numbers, not a guaranteed character, emotion, or exact scene. Listen before placing each variant. Longer sounds can sustain a presence; shorter ones can mark a reveal or a cut.

Choose and mix a horror sound
- Anticipation. Try a “Terror inquietante” variant at a moderate level before the visual reveal. Lower it during dialogue and let it emerge in the silence afterward.
- Appearance. Place a “Grito - Fantasmas” when the image supports the scare. Align the WAV's attack to the reveal frame; moving it one or two frames can change the perceived synchronization.
- Exit. Listen to the file's ending before trimming. A short fade can prevent an abrupt cut, but an already natural ending may need no added fade.
Check the mix on headphones and a phone speaker. Lower the effect if it masks speech or clips the master. In Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, or another WAV-compatible editor, keep effects on their own track so timing and level can be adjusted without altering the original file.
